BIO (English)
My name is Juan Pablo I was born in Bogotá, Colombia. I’m a Visual Artist with Audiovisual emphasis of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. I had also made studies in Digital Postproduction at the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Banos in the Havana, Cuba, and a workshop in journalism and reporting in the National University of Bogotá.
During my studies I became interested in the defense of human rights. I made thedocumentary “Ghosts of the Palace” (2007) that chronicles the events that occurred during the siege of the Palace of Justice by the M-19 guerrilla group in 1985. I had also made the film “Right for the sins” (2008) that talks about the violation of animal rights in Colombia. Finally, I made the documentary “Osos Abandonados” / Lost Innocence (2009) which talk about the involvement of children in the armed conflict of Colombia.
I’ve made screenings of this documentary at different scenarios such as: Film Festival of Cartagena of Indias 2010 (Colombia), Film Festival Cinesul 2010 (Brazil), Motion Picture Association of America MPAA 2010 (Washington, USA), United Nations 2010 (New York, USA) and at the Directors Guild of America 2010 (Los Angeles, USA).
Among the awards I received are: Shock Award 2008 for Best Alternative Production. I have also been nominated for the Prize India Catalina (2010) for Best Documentary of New Artists for my documentary “Osos Abandonados”, finally I had been awarded by the State Department of the United States, with the Democracy Video Challenge Award 2010.
